Initial Poster Design - Sketch

Posters are a highly popular form of advertising films. They are not only easily created, and an efficient way of exploring a film, but they are also widely viewed in the public eye. As every film has a film poster, we must create one for our film, which should be effective in capturing the onlookers eye, but also successful in denoting the genre thriller, and appealing to our target audience of teens. Here is a design of a poster which I created:
On the sketch I have included the key features of what should be consisted on a film poster:

  • TITLE: The title of our film being "Shadow", is quite a simple title but reflect the narrative, as the protagonist feels like she is fading away. I feel that a simple text would be suitable for the title, perhaps in white, as the colour connotes innocence, but the simple font with extra shading is eye catching for the onlooker, and therefore effective in attracting an wide audience. Furthermore a simple text could be sufficient in suggesting that the film is shot in a college, as it look hand written, giving the effect that the protagonist has wrote it, or perhaps a font with a handwriting style could be effective also

  • MAIN PHOTO: The main image of the poster should be a girl stood behind a cyclorama, with her hair down, and her head facing up, almost as if she is begging to be saved from her personal nightmare. The girl should be shadowed, as she is behind the cyclorama, as the light is facing from the back of her to the camera. I think this is effecting, as it hides her face, connoting that she is shy, and a resolute character. The black shadow of her, combined with the white of the screen, is an effective contrast, as it suggests that she is an innocent character, who is succumb to dark emotions due to her troublesome teen years

  • TAG-LINE: Although tag-lines are not always included on film posters, I feel that we should have one on ours, as it both gives the onlooker a brief insight into the film, but also if the slogan is catchy, it remains in the mind of the viewer, and therefore the film will gain a larger audience, as it is memorable. A quote from the protagonist "all I ever wanted to do was be invisible", is a very suitable tag-line, as it is mysterious and interesting. It shows the onlooker that she is lonely, and neglected, and therefore is engaging.
  • INFORMATION: The information shown on the poster should be presented through a thin, long font in a colour which stands against the colour of the main image. This is presented in most of the movie poster released in the present day, and this was the inspiration for my poster idea. The information should include:
Producer
Director
Main cast
Distributor
Production Company
Certification
