First Draft of Script- Shadow

Act 1 Scene 1

EXT. PUBLIC FOOTPATH – DAY

An unidentified girl is running down the path, she is carrying something in her hand. She appears to be anxious and nervous.

She stops further down the path and throws what she is clutching into the trees. At this point she seems more relaxed and relieved.

Act 1 Scene 2

EXT. PUBLIC FOOTPATH – DAY

Ruby Fox is walking down the public footpath; she is listening to her iPod and texting. As she walks further down the path she notices a glistening object caught in the trees.

Intrigued she walks towards the object that is now revealed to be a necklace. Ruby removes it from the tree, examines it and then places it in her bag.

Act 1 Scene 3

INT. COLLEGE – DAY

Ruby arrives at college and heads for the toilets, on her way she passes 2 girls who snigger and whisper about her.

GIRL 1

Look who it is, what a freak!

GIRL 2

I know she’s so weird.

Ruby enters the toilets.


Act 1 Scene 4

INT. COLLEGE TOILETS – DAY

Inside the toilets Ruby removes the necklace from her bag and tries it on. She admires herself in the mirror and seems to be entranced by the necklace.

As she is looking at her reflection, Ruby realises the time and rushes to her lesson.

RUBY FOX

Aw Crap!

Ruby exits the toilets.


Act 1 Scene 5

INT. COLLEGE CLASSROOM – DAY

Ruby enters the classroom and tries to explain to her tutor (Simon) why she is late.

RUBY FOX

I’m so sorry I’m late, I just got …/

SIMON

/… Good Morning guys, hope you

had a good weekend.

Confused, Ruby takes her seat.

Later during the lesson and Simon seems to ignore her again.

SIMON

Can anyone explain to me what an

eye-line match is?

Ruby is the only student to raise her hand

SIMON

Anyone?

Ruby waves her hand frantically.

SIMON

Brett, How about you?

Ruby sighs and leans back into her seat.

Simon continues to ignore her throughout the scene.

SIMON

Ok guys, I want you to take these sheets home and answer the questions for homework.

The tutor hands out sheets to all the class members, except Ruby.

RUBY

Simon, Simon! I haven’t got a sheet, SIMON!

The tutor ignores Ruby’s statement.

SIMON

Guys, before you go, has anyone seen

Ruby? It isn’t like her to miss a session

The class all shake their heads and

mumble replies of no.

Ruby, now extremely frustrated, stands

up and cries out.

RUBY

SIMON! I’m here for crying out

loud! Stop ignoring me!

Ruby moves near Simon and waves her hand in front of his face, he doesn’t respond. Amazed by her apparent invisibility, Ruby leaves the classroom.


Act 1 Scene 6

EXT – RUBY’S HOUSE – DAY

Ruby walks up to her front door and enters. She hears frantic voices coming from her Kitchen.

RUBY

I’m Home

VOICE 1

What are we going to do? It isn’t

Like her to miss college

VOICE 2

I don’t know! I’m sure she’s fine,

She’s a smart girl.

RUBY

Hello?

Ruby enters the Kitchen so see her parent’s arguing.

RUBY’S MUM

It just isn’t like her.

RUBY’S DAD

I know, I know

He moves and hugs Ruby’s mum.

RUBY’S DAD

Come on we’ll have one more look around and

then call the police, I’m confident she’ll be fine.

RUBY

Wait, what do you mean look for me?

I’m right here! MUM! DAD! I’m here.


They Exit, leaving ruby alone.

Distraught ruby runs upstairs to her room.


Act 1 Scene 7

INT. RUBY’S BEDROOM – NIGHT

Confused and upset by her parents, Ruby lies down and cries on her bed. There she falls asleep.



Act 2 Scene 1

INT. RUBY’S BEDROOM – DAY

Ruby wakes up to find that her parents have not returned and the house is empty. She is then alarmed to find that a photo on her bedside table no longer contains her. She grabs the photo and runs out of the house.


Act 2 Scene 2

INT. COLLEGE – DAY

Ruby, who is now in a panic, run’s up to people and waves her hands in their faces. No one reacts and she realises she is still invisible. Upset she runs into the toilets.

Act 2 Scene 3

INT. COLLEGE TOILETS – DAY

Ruby looks at her reflection in the mirror.

RUBY

What is happening to me? Why can no-body see me!

Ruby raises her hand to her face and slowly watches her reflection disappear. In shock, she moves her hand down to touch the necklace- slowly she lifts it around her head and is amazed to see her reflection re-appear.

RUBY

Oh my god, the necklace!

With a new sense of determination ruby grips the necklace tightly in her hand.


Act 2 Scene 4

EXT. BRIDGE – DAY

Ruby is stood on the bridge, holding the necklace out over the edge. Slowly she lets it fall into the water below. Relieved she walks away down the bridge, and as she does removes the photo from her pocket to find that she has returned to it.

FADES TO BLACK
